2011

Update October 2011:
Fall colors are all over the place in the Ozarks here. Cooler weather will be here soon for forging new damascus.
The Knifemakers' Guild Show in Louisville, KY was a good show, good crowd there. I am finished with
my 2011 knife show schedule. My first show in 2012 will be the Arkansas Custom Knife Show in mid-Feb.
It's also a great show to go to. Hope you will make plans to travel to Little Rock, AR for that one.

I have a new feature to add to the website. It is an Available Knife Newsletter that you can sign up

Update July 2011:

Back from the Blade Show in Atlanta; could not have been hotter.
It was very good to see a bunch of you folks there - especially
at the possum dinner. They didn't tell ya'll we were eating possum, sure was covered in a fine sauce. ;)
Wonder what they will be feeding us at the Knifemakers Guild Show? Hope its Catfish!

Hope to see you there @ the Guild Show, Sept. 15-18 in Louisville, KY.
I am getting back to work on orders. If you are waiting on one, thank you very much for your patience.

Stay cool this summer, Don

Update May 2011:
I am back from a fishing trip and now counting down to the Blade Show coming up in June.
Lots of rain and flooding, but we caught fish and had a good time.

There is a couple of new things for me at the Blade Show. First, I have a new table location this year
after years of being at the same location. My table number is 13-O in the ABS section.
Check out my knife show page for a link to the Blade Show website.

Second, I am going to the (CKCA) Custom Knife Collectors Association banquet on
Thurs. evening June 9th in Atlanta, GA.
It is their annual banquet. I was asked to bring one of my knives to be sold at the banquet that night.
More details are on the CKCA website.

I hope you will be able to attend the Blade Show this year. It is THE largest knife show in the world and
it is well worth the trip to Atlanta, GA if you are nuts about knives like I am.

In September, I will be attending the Knifemakers Guild Show in Louisville, KY. More details about that later.

~Best Regards, Don

Update March 2011:
The 2011 Arkansas Custom Knife Show was very good. This was the first
time I've had a table there since 2004; and I'll definitely be back next year.
It was very good visiting with some of you and meeting new folks. I came home with the
best fighter award, which was truly an honor!

I've been forging damascus for 2 weeks; hope to have enough made before hot weather.

Sorry I haven't had time to make anything for the available page. I'm covered up with orders
but hope to offer one piece before the Blade Show.

Speaking of the Blade Show, I hope to see you there! Check out my knife show page for more details.

~Best Regards, Don

Update January 2011:
Happy New Year Everyone and happy new decade too!

I have three really good custom knife shows lined up this year. I will
be working double time to get enough knives made for each one. First show will be
the Arkansas Show in Little Rock in February; then the Blade Show in June,
then Knifemakers' Guild Show in September.

There's more details and links for each of these knife shows on my knife show page.

Off to the shop to make more damascus for these knives. Hope to see you at a show this year.

~Don

2010

Update November 2010:
Hi folks, a little late here, been real busy.
First off, I did Jerry Fisk's show the first part of October and it was great!
This was the first Micro Show I've done and I have to say, it was a great time.
It was much more about getting together with a bunch of good people that all share similar
interests. Knives, guns, fishing, hunting, gators and good food.
The ride down with Joe R. and Rob L. was a good time. Thanks Joe!
Also, a big Thanks to Jerry, his family and all the attendants for having me there.

I have cut a bunch of firewood lately and been forging some damascus and blades. Started selling more W2
a couple days ago and running back and forth to the Post Office, I forgot how time consuming this is, it's all good.
But now, I need to jump on some orders and get a few knives finished.

My next show is Little Rock Arkansas in Feb. Haven't had a table there in 6 years,
looking forward to seeing some of you there.

Well, I need to go deer hunting, oops, I mean get to work in the shop.
Hope y'all have a great Thanksgiving, a Merry Christmas and a Happy Hanukkah.

Best regards,
Don Hanson

Update July 2010:
Hi folks, The Blade Show was very good this year, and a great time.
It was really good seeing a bunch of you there.

After years of planning, we just had Sid from Little Giant here delivering
a brand new 100 lb. Little Giant Powerhammer. We set it up with the help of
Dave Sloan, who drove down with Sid; and Jim Holland with his forklift.
Of course it was during a heat wave in Missouri, but we forged damascus for a couple of days anyway.
This is a heavy ram hammer that was never assembled or sold until now. Pretty cool old American iron!
My thanks go out to Sid, Dave and Jim for all of their help!

I'm working on old orders right now but hope to have an available knife by the end of this month.
Thanks for checking out the site and hope to see ya at a show soon.
Keep Cool, Don

Update April 2010:
Spring Time finally! Which means too many shows coming up,
too many orders, and too many fish to catch.
I've been fighting kidney stones for a month now.
Feeling better but I'm still behind.
No more orders please. The next addition to my available page will probably be early July.
Keep checking back. Thanks for all of the calls and emails from everyone during this kidney stone episode.
Best Regards, Don

Update February 2010:
It's been a fairly harsh winter this year. Looking forward to spring and fishing season!
So far I have forged a bunch of damascus for folders, and in the process of
forging fixed blades, both damascus and carbon steel.

My 100 lb. Little Giant Power Hammer blew up, (slung a rod), last week.
I ordered new parts from Sid @ Little Giant in Nebraska City, NE. It's up and running again.
I think that's amazing for a machine made in 1941 to work as hard as it does.

I hope to finish up forging soon. I've got a lot of orders to get out before I start working on Blade Show knives.

I'm still kind of on schedule offering one knife a month on my
available page. Keep checking that page for new additions.
Best Regards, Don

2009

Update December 2009:
Where did this year go too?
It's forging season again! I've been working on knives in the shop, but it's time
to forge more damascus.
I have 2 knife shows planned for 2010, Blade Show in June
and Fisk's Micro show in October. I hope you will be able
to get away to a knife show this coming year.
My whole family and I want to wish everyone a
Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year - 2010! ~Don.

Update October 2009:
Jerry Fisk has invited me to attend his
Micro-Invitational Show next year. That's the weekend of Oct. 8,9,10, 2010.
I plan to bring 6 to 8 knives. I have heard many good things about Jerry's show.
Sounds like alot of fun being planned for that weekend. I'm looking forward to being there.
Check out my knife show page for more details and links.
I've been working on knife orders. But with this cool fall weather
I will be forging damascus and blades soon.
I am still selling alot of W2 steel to other knife-makers.
My old stock is running low after making this available for 4 years.
So I'm looking into having some made. Stay tuned for updates.
~ Thanks for checking out my website, Don.

Update August 2009: Well, I went fishin'!

I caught this blue catfish on my last fishing trip here in Missouri.
It weighed 35 + lbs. Caught on hook and line too!
That's a lot of catfish dinners. Also caught alot of smaller cats and bass.

The A.G. Russell show last month was my last knife show of the year.
A.G. and staff sure put on a nice knife show in AR!
The new book "500 Knives" by Lark Books is available. I just got my
copy in the mail. Very nice book, that is reasonably priced
and widely available from Amazon.com or barnesandnobles.com.
I want to thank Lark Books for including my work in the book.
Now, back to the shop ~ Thanks, Don.

Update June 2009:
Blade Show was my best show ever! It was great to
meet so many new people and good seeing the old regulars. :)
I have one more knife show for 2009. It's the A.G. Russell knife show in Rogers, AR. coming up July 24-26.
If you're not planning on going to this show, change your plans and go! It's going to be a really good show.
For those of you that are waiting for knives on order, thank you for your patience. I am working on them!
I hope ya'll are getting to go fishing more than I am, maybe I'll sneak out one day next week.
Thanks for visiting my website! ~Don

Update April 2009:
Springtime! Well it's still cold and rainy in the Ozarks.
But,the fish are biting! I hope to get some knifemaking in in-between all the fishing.:)
I hope to have a few knives for the Blade Show coming up May 29-31, 2009.
The knife show is located in Atlanta, GA at the Cobb Galleria Centre.
My table # is 19-O in the ABS section.
I probably will not have an available knife
in April or May, due to the Blade Show coming up.
But I hope to have one available in June.
I will be attending the AG Russell Knife Show, July 24-26 in Rogers, AR.
I've heard good things about this new knife show and it's fairly close.
Check out my knife show page for more details and a link to the show.
Hope to see you at the knife shows! Don

Update February 2009:
Hope everyone is well.
I've been busy working on old knife orders and one per month for
the available page. Look for another knife later this month (Feb.)

I am also trying to get enough damascus and blades forged while it's still cool.
I don't like to forge in the summer heat, but still find myself at
the forge in 90 degree heat... Oh well, could be worse!

I'm teaching a folder class at the end of this month, at the Ozark Knifemakers School in Ozark, MO.
There's 8 students signed up and we'll be making 8 single blade slip joints,
in the big Remington Bullet pattern. Will be interesting!

I will be getting ready for the Blade Show in Atlanta soon.
Hope to have 6 knives for the show. The Blade Show is the largest, best knife
show in the world.
Hope you can make the trip to Atlanta in May for the Blade Show!
Thanks! Don

2008

Update December 2008:
Happy Holidays from Sunfish Forge!

HO-HO-HO!
and a Happy New Year!

Update September 2008:
Hello everyone, This will be the new location for the blog.

I'm finally getting the orders under control
to where I can offer a knife on the available page.
The available knife page is now up and running with a new knife.
Check back often for new additions.

The Chicago Show was good, and was my last show of the year.
My next knife show will be the Blade Show May 2009.

Thanks for visiting!

Update August 2008:
Hey Folks, it looks like the Available Knife Page is turning into a "blog".
Sounds like a movie Steve McQueen starred in
way back in the 60's - Oh, that was The Blob I think.

When I get a free moment to make a knife available on this page;
this blog page will appear on the website with its own button.
Stay tuned for that...

It's been a year now since I pulled the plug on taking orders for knives.
I still have orders in the book to do. Thanks once again for your patience.

My last custom knife show for 2008 is coming up.
The Chicago Custom Knife Show 'CCKS' will be on September 12 and 13, 2008.
New location for the show next year: 2009, Downtown Chicago.
A link to the CCKS website is located on my knife shows page. Check it out for more details.
Thanks!

Update June 2008:
Blade Show 2008 was my best show ever. I sold out on the first day.
Sorry I don't have any knives to offer on this
available page as planned, but hope to soon.
I enjoyed visiting and meeting some of you at the show.
Thanks for all of the support.

Hope to see a bunch of you guys in Chicago.

Update April 2008:
I am getting ready for the Blade Show and the Chicago Custom Knife Show.
Hopefully, I will have a few knives on my table.

I'm still working on my current backlog of orders.
If you have a knife on order with me, thanks for your patience.
I'm doing my best to get them made on time for you.

I have two custom knife shows left to attend in 2008.

On May 30 - June 1, 2008; is the biggest knife show of the year: Blade Show.

2007
